Ideal weekly schedule
An unplanned week or a disturbed routine can lead to irritation, fatigue and most importantly unproductivity. Randomness does give space for more creative flow but it can be more chaotic than soothing at times. What you need to do is find a balance between personal space and professional and fit them in defined slots into your weekly schedule.
A weekly schedule is recommended because it helps you have control over your actions, schedule priorities with given time, manage others’ expectations and if it gives you a future vision, for a short time yes, but eventually becomes a habit and your life starts going on a smooth sail. All human beings are subjected to their own perceptions and thus their own opinions. So an ideal weekly schedule may sound perfect for one and full of chaos for another. Thus one just needs to decide which schedule marks all the tabs on their checklist.
For preparing your weekly schedule, make a table with columns labelled from Monday to Sunday. Then write down your basic functions in separate rows and a lot of time periods for those tasks below the days.
Here are some options to include in your ideal weekly schedule, choose wisely:
- Personal time: It is important to have a defined schedule slot for personal time. It can include spending time with friends and family, socialising over an app or at a party or even meditation.
- Workout: Physical exercise is necessary for maintaining physical health. Thus one needs to a lot at least 1 hour every day for some kind of exercise. You can go to the gym or have a workout session at home, you can join a Zumba class, a dance class or Pilates, even an hour of regular morning or evening walk is sufficient for proper movement of your body.
- Mental health: Mental health is still not a very widely accepted topic but there is no doubt that it is of extreme importance. Focusing on one’s mental health can lower their stress level, anxiety level and can provide a better understanding of who one is. Meditation is a recommended activity for improving mental health. Playing your favourite sport or participating in your favourite hobbies have also proved helpful in mental health improvement.
- Professional work/office work: We have specific office hours most of the time and our office calendar often gives us details about upcoming events or meetings. One needs to plan their office work weekly on a priority basis and include all client meetings, office meetings or any other events into the schedule. This will help in reducing excessive workload and one will become more productive.
- Plan your meals: When you are living on your own, cooking every day becomes a big and boring task. Thus to ease the process, plan your meals beforehand, you can do it for three days, five days or a whole week. This will save your time wondering about what you are going to cook and you can buy the groceries beforehand too. This will prevent you from wasting your time going grocery shopping every two days.
- Socialise: Man is a social animal and we need socialising to exist in society. Now weekends are considered the best time for socialising, going out with friends, going for trips nearby. Thus one can plan their weekend getaways beforehand to prevent the unsuccessful impromptu plans made on a Friday for the next day.
- Schedule breaks: We are not a machine, we can not function continuously without taking a break. Thus it is better to plan your breaks in your weekly schedule. One will feel a sense of accomplishment by reaching these breaks. This will result in less fatigue and more productivity.
Things to do at least once a week
When a week is planned, it makes you more productive and eases your process of scheduling various events. There are certain activities which may seem like a big task but if done at least once a week, can prove to be a great addition to your life.
Here we are going to discuss things that we should do at least once a week:
- Tell your family you love them: We all love our family and are very close to them. But very often we take them for granted and stop appreciating them for their efforts. Thus, one should take some time appreciating your loved ones at least once a week.
- Thank people who have made an impact on you: A lot of people made an impact on us on day to day basis so thanking them, being grateful to them and appreciating them would fill you with endorphins thus giving you a positive perspective in life.
- Deep clean your room: Our surroundings have a massive effect on our mood and due to daily struggles, we often find our room cluttered. This mess leaves us with an irritating mood and contributes to stress subconsciously. Thus pick any day (weekends are recommended due to more free time) and start cleaning your room.
- Networking: In today’s cutting edge world, networking has become essential for career growth, staying employed, and job satisfaction. Thus get in touch with your old friends, college seniors and start building a network.
- Get pampered: Self-care is the utmost care that one needs and deserve, thus indulging yourself in some pampering won’t harm anybody. Pampering routine can include any activity of your choice like manicure, pedicure, skincare, sheetmasking, haircare, taking a bubble bath, enjoying your favourite meal, remember it need not be an expensive but a relaxing experience.
- Write: With the advancement in technology, we have so many tools to note things down such as speech recognition, keyboards e.t.c. But writing by your hands once in a while can prove to be a relaxing experience. Writing has been proven to elevate mood, make people happy, strengthen relationships and improve memory.
- Review your goals: We people love to set new goals all the time, we set them, sometimes we achieve them and sometimes we do not and then we move on but we must sit down and review them. Pick a day in a week when you will review all your goals, how far you have reached in achieving them and by how much you have to up your game to achieve them soon.
- Make a to-do list: Make a to-do list for the rest of your week or three days or any period you want. This helps prioritize different tasks and organize them for a smooth process.
- Learn or update finances: Finances are a huge part of our life and it is harder to manage finances than earning the money. So once a week, sit down and review your finances, look through various investment plans and find the one that suits you best.
