How to get rejected in an interview
Job interviews set your first impression for the employers. It gives you a platform to elaborate your skills, qualification and experience relevant to the job you are interviewing for. No matter how much you have prepared for the interview, sometimes, you will get rejected and it baffles one mind in trying to figure out what may have caused your rejection. Thus, in this article we are going to discuss the reasons which will lead to a definite rejection in an interview:
- Inconsistency with linked in profile: Most of us mention our linked in profile in our Resume/CV but forget to update it. Thus if one finds differences in your occupation, experience, training in between your linked in profile and your resume, it will give an impression of a two-faced person or may simply come across as dishonest.
- Read the room: During the interview process, always read the room. Focus on the body language, expression and gestures of your employers, if their eyes are glazed out they are no longer listening to you. So instead of continuing, change the subject or acknowledge their reactions.
- Ending the interview: It is quite obvious that a candidate cannot end the interview on their own. Either one has to run out of time or the conversation has to come to a conclusion naturally. Thus, you cannot end the interview by saying that you have to be at some other place. One has to behave like the interview is the most important thing right now in their life and give all their focus and attention to the moment only.
- Lack of enthusiasm: One always want to have an employee who is passionate about the job. Thus you have to convince your employers through your unique values are the desired traits for the organisation. Through the whole interview process, one has to be presentable in their most enthusiastic self.
- No questions asked: Although almost everyone is nowadays well aware of this process of the interview, some people still shy away from it. All the interviewers ask the candidates to ask questions usually at the end of the whole interview process. Now some people ignore this in order to come across as a modest being but this actually reduces your chances of getting selected. Asking a question from your employers demonstrates curiosity, insights and utmost interest in tho the challenges offered by the job role.
- Not complying with directions: If you are wondering that even after having a great interview, communicating really well with the interviewers, why you did not get selected, then think about any instruction or direction given by the employers that you did not comply with. A lot of times, employers give simple tasks to their candidates or some kind of practical assignment and if you have not provided the company with this required data then the rejection was a definite call.
- Handling salary issues ineptly: All of us know that a handsome salary is a kind of driving force in a job hunt. People switch to other companies over higher salary packages all the time. But if you are getting too excited about this and discussing about salary and benefits first thing in your interview then think again. This will only make you appear as a greedy and unprofessional person.
- Lack of career direction: With the new trend of YOLO (You Only Live Once), we are getting more and more focused on our present, which is a very good thing but we have to have a future vision for having a successful professional career. If you lack future career prospective and do not know what your dream job is or what do you want to achieve through your career, then you are directionless and thus cannot ever grow even in your current job because you are not working hard for anything.
